The artist's niece, Adria, has ridden horses and competed in equestrian events since she was a young girl. The last two years have been very difficult for her, but she is strong and resilient and is, in her words, back in the saddle. This piece was inspired by a photograph of Adria taken by Isabella Rose Smith.
The Art of Healing Dr. Walt Brodis was a successful physician and an avid skier, dividing his time equally between his profession, sport, and loving family, until he was faced with an unexpected challenge. He was diagnosed with a form of mental illness called Manic Depression (Bipolar Disorder). His case was severe and he had to give up his profession as a practicing physician. For nearly two decades he has been treated with powerful psychiatric medications and on-going electroconvulsive therapy treatments as well as being surrounded by the love and support of family and friends.
