A grand old white pine located in the Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary in Copper Harbor, Michigan.
Sanctuary is a wilderness tract of over 500 acres protecting this old growth northern hardwood forest with groves of eastern white pine. Named after a mineral land speculator in France whose family protected the land until the 1940’s, Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary is home to hundreds of 300 to 500 year old eastern white pine. These ancient trees, which average 110 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet in diameter, make up one of the largest old growth eastern white pine tracts in the United States.
